Development is more than just rewrites. Development is the stage between idea and execution - execution beginning in pre-production. While it does include developing your idea into a solid story, fully fleshing out your characters, and the inevitable rewrites, it’s also the stage where you determine the strategy for producing and distributing your project. Who is your audience and how will you reach them? How will you find and approach cast to fit the project? Who distributes or streams these types of projects, and how can you get them on board or “invested” in your idea? What can the market bear and how does that determine the budget? And so much more. Proper development is crucial to distribution success.
