Internship Opportunities with the Atlanta Film Society
The Atlanta Film Society (ATLFS) is a year-round, non-profit media arts organization that specializes in film screenings, educational support, and film and media events, including an annual screenplay competition and the Academy Award® qualifying Atlanta Film Festival, held each spring. Our internships give interns a well-rounded experience and knowledge of producing a film festival, as well as experience working for a non-profit, member-based, media arts organization.
Interns assist with administrative duties, membership, and event planning and coordination. Please note that while an internship with ATLFS is a great way to get connected to the local film community, we are not a film studio and cannot provide internships in film production.
Basic Requirements for all Interns:
Must be at least 18 years old (internships for High School Seniors available on a case-by-case basis)
Must be available to work a select number of after-hours events (some events are off-site).
Interns should be energetic, outgoing, and enjoy working with the public. Interns should have excellent written and oral communication skills, phone manners, and organizational abilities.
*Internships are unpaid, but college credit and a free ATLFS membership are granted.

Interns should be Mac & PC literate
Interns answer all office phone calls, so verbal customer service and phone etiquette is essential
Experience with Microsoft Word & Excel required
Experience with Google Email and Documents preferred
Assists in organizing and communicating with volunteers
Assist in staging and scheduling of upcoming workshops and events
Capable of navigating www.filmfreeway.com database for festival submissions
Assists in organizing and communicating with screening committees
Assists in maintaining and updating website
Assists in maintaining ATLFS presence on the web, including social media
Assists in writing basic event announcements
Assists in creating marketing materials including fliers, posters and other ancillaries (proficiency with Photoshop and Illustrator preferred, but not required)
Assist in documenting events, including some filming and photography
Assists in maintaining ATLFS membership database
Assists in member recruitment
Maintenance of prior festival archives and storage
Reliable transportation to and from the office and external festival events

Now celebrating a 50-year history, the Atlanta Film Society (ATLFS) is one of the oldest and largest organizations dedicated to the promotion and education of film in the United States. ATLFS aims to unite the Atlanta community by serving artists in creative growth and inspiring audiences through the power of the moving image. Enriching the community through screenings, classes, workshops, and other events year-round, the chief operation of ATLFS is the Atlanta Film Festival.
One of only two dozen Academy Award-qualifying events in the country, the Atlanta Film Festival showcases over 150 films annually to over 21,000 attendees across a ten-day event each spring. Each year, the Atlanta Film Festival receives over 9,000 submissions from 120 countries across the globe.
Our Business Department is crucial in making sure we achieve our funding goals by utilizing various channels to promote awareness: web, social media, and email campaigns. As the Business Associate, you will be involved in the research, coordination, and execution of fundraising campaigns, which include (but are not limited to) Corporate Sponsorship, Government Grants, Donor Relations, and more! Interns will play a part in building & maintaining a relationship with our biggest funders. Thus, we require only serious and professional candidates to apply, as you will be a direct representation of our organization and brand. The schedule is flexible, but interns are expected to be available online twice a week for 4 hours each day. Upon completion, students will gain hands-on experience with the techniques needed to research, develop, and execute fundraising strategies. Additionally, students will gain greater insight as to how their role helps play into the overall financial plan for an organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist Managing Director & Executive Director to research sponsorship leads
Research potential grant opportunities
Collect data on the impact of programs for sponsorships
Coordinate the delivery of sponsor benefits
Assist in the auditing and maintenance of Salesforce records
Research potential donor leads
Draft sponsor & donor communication documents
Help create post sponsorship wrap reports
Do market research into other art nonprofits and their programs
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Must be currently enrolled in a college/university.
Must receive college credit for internship.
Must be seeking a degree in Economics, Business, Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Arts Management, Public Service, Accounting, Sales, or similar.
At a minimum, must be in junior year and above, or at graduate level.
Must be able to work a minimum of 4 hours a week.
Must be available to meet twice a week.
Must have reliable transportation.
Experience and/or a desire to work in a high-energy group setting, and a drive to do what it takes to get the job done well.
Ability to work cooperatively with staff and volunteers.
Demonstrates initiative, is conscientious and provides follow-through on areas of responsibility.
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
Excellent computer skills required including proficiency with Word and Excel; data entry experience.
Excellent verbal and writing skills a must.
