Please note that we will require of all registrants, along with a matching photo ID, either:

1. Proof of full vaccination (all shots required, plus 14-day period)

2. Recent negative Covid-19 test (no older than 72 hours)

Did you ever want to know how someone writes music for film, or better yet, how to do it yourself? In this course, you will learn the technical terms for film scoring and the basics of scoring music to picture.

We will discuss the following points with audio/visual demonstrations:
What Goes Into a Score
• Themes
• Motific Development
• Instrumentation
• Basic pedagogy of orchestral instrumentation and their respective ranges
• Meter Change
• Tempo Change
• Modulation

Communication Breakdown
• Learning the basics of Spotting Sessions
• Working from a Temp track
• Scoring from a script/look-book
• Establishing a mood/tone for the score
• Communicating with directors/producers

Music Production
• Learning to score in a DAW (Logic)
• Programming virtual orchestral instruments to sound genuine
• Understanding the importance of automations, reverbs, and EQs
• Creating unique, textural sounds with synthesizers

Music Business
• Utilizing networking tips
• Leveraging social media for business building
• Creating a composer reel
• Establishing credits/resume
• Building a professional website

Real World Example(s)
You will also be shown a session from a completed work, and we will break apart the elements that went into scoring the scene.

At the end, we will all work together to create music for a scene (if time permits).
