Ready? Set? Write. How do you create worlds that invite people into a place that only exists in your mind? How do you create living, breathing, flawed characters that light up your pages and make the journey “Oh, so sweet” ? Are you just writing to put something down -- pen to paper? Or are you writing to change the world? Stories and the characters within those stories move us. Your experiences, your voice, and the way you see the world helps you tell that story and sets you apart. Delving into a fictional world or character takes such heart, time and bravery. In this Creating Memorable Characters 1-day workshop, we ask: What do you really know about the characters that you are creating? Do they stand out? What is really their story?
In this class you will learn:
- What is your Heartbeat Story and how does this affect the characters you create?
- Deep Character Study and Breakdown: Examining your characters and their world
- The Work: What is Backstory? What do they eat, wear and say and why is this important? Researching those elements and the world around you and how to incorporate them.
- The Art of the Lookbook
Experiencing art is about experiencing life and vice versa. Open to actors, writers and directors, this class will push you to look at creating characters that come alive to the people that go on the journey with you. Characters that change the world.
This class will be taught by Janlatae’ Mullins, award winning writer, producer and freelance director. For a full instructor bio please click here.
