A brilliant writer knows how to create exciting scenes in a manner that captivates both script readers and viewers. Improvisation techniques can enhance that creativity, leading to fresh material for comedic and dramatic stories and everything in between. In this two-day workshop, writers participate in guided team exercises (including improv games) and experiment with various practical approaches to produce ideas that could help build a script. The collaborative environment not only generates content but can also enhance self-confidence. Overnight, you write a couple of new pages, and the next day you see a script-in-hand staged reading of your improv-inspired scene.
On the first day, you will leave this session with the ability to use improv to create:
• Characters
• Scenes
• Conflict
• Dialogue
On the second day, you will have an opportunity to put a short scene—newly written by you and inspired by your improv work on the first day—on its feet in front of the other participants. Specifically, you would write a couple of typed pages of dialogue (preferably in 12-point Courier screenplay format), then cast your characters among the other people in class, give each of these actors a copy of your script to read aloud, and then watch your scene come to life. No memorization. Discussion after each scene.
Whether you are a beginner or a veteran writer, these workshops will give you more tools to build your own scripts. Sign up now!
