2020 has been quite the year. The country we call home is being tested to its very core by events that none of us could have foreseen. There is a silver lining, however, as our systemic inequities are not only being questioned, but the possibility of change and justice seems more likely than it ever has before.
With that being said, we'd like to hear from all of you and what you have to say. Your stories and your voices are an integral component during these times of change.
This screenwriting course is created for underrepresented and minority writers to develop stories that are often untold. While the course will also focus on the basic tenets of screenwriting including structure, tone, and character, its main focus will be to help writers discover their inner voice and write stories that break convention.
Students are encouraged to bring in the first draft of a short screenplay or an outline for a short they are interested in developing. Students will learn how to introduce and develop a character, create and maintain a consistent tone, and write a story that further enhances their voice and perspective. The story you walk away with will be a reflection of how you see the world, not how someone else thinks you should see it. Since this is a smaller development workshop, we will go over each and every student’s screenplay and outline in class and the instructor will also be providing 1 on 1 time to each student.
ATLFS offers a maximum of 2 scholarships per class offering and are awarded on an as-needed basis. Scholarships cover 100% of the cost of registration. Please note that this scholarship is intended for Black Filmmakers and Students.
